VANCOUVER, B.C. – In this modest project, the owners simply desired to create a set of stairs that connected the main level to the lower level. The original stairs had been built over prior to their arrival.
The proposed design looked to make the stairwell a multi-purpose space – incorporating a breakfast nook bridging at the stairs at the main level. A box-out window at the landing of the U-shaped stairway provided a place of rest in view of the beautifully landscape rear yard and also provided direct sightline from the kitchen so that their young children could be seen while preparing meals. Furthermore, a series of decks connecting the main level to the rear yard provided a graceful transition from the home’s interior to the backyard.
Unfortunately, unforeseen financial circumstances in addition to municipal regulatory issues forced the early termination of this project.
